Personal Profile – Callum Marks

With 6 years’ radio experience with some of the UK’s biggest stations at the age of just 23, my skills span far and wide. From programming to production, photography to video editing; and social media to web design, my knowledge enables me to successfully undertake many important roles within the radio and media industry.

Employment History

January 2017 – June 2018   |   Key 103

  • I was offered the new role of Daytime Producer at Key 103. This involves looking after the audio, video and social output of the shows between 10am-7pm each weekday.
  • My accomplishments in this role have been the launch of new features such as the ‘10 O’Clock Playlist’, a new network show on 11 radio stations, and the growth of audience in the station’s drive-time show. In addition, I produced the nomination audio for the 2017 ARIA’s in which the station won 2 awards.
  • I’ve worked on a number of projects including Superhero Day, Mission Christmas, the Great Manchester Run and Manchester Day.
  • The position has allowed me to excel and develop my skills with on-air talent, producing daily features to act as a bookmark for any listener, and developing exciting and entertaining content.
  • I have also provided cover for the Content Controller for the station when required, and worked on another of the groups stations, Absolute Radio and produced Jason Manford’s Sunday morning programme.

 May 2016 – December 2016   |   Freelance

  • Whilst freelancing, I worked across a variety of radio and audio companies including Bauer Media, CommunicorpUK, Devaweb and Audio Always.
  • I worked with a variety of broadcasters on a number of formats including, sport, talk and music – I provided show production services, as well as audio and digital production, even managing a full on-air and online rebrand of a radio station.
  • My main accomplishment during this time was producing the brand-new late night talk show on Key 103 – booking up to 7 guests per night, researching a variety of topics for discussion, and identifying the points of those topics and articles that would invoke a reaction from the listener.

 June 2014 – May 2016   |   CommunicorpUK

  • I transferred from RSL to CommunicorpUK in 2014 into the role of Admin/Programming/Finance Assistant. The role involved working across all three departments, supporting both S&P and Digital teams too.
  • Responsibilities included co-ordinating a full charity day of broadcasting on Real XS, this included on-air and online competitions, 6 OB’s and production of the live Evening Show special.
  • I worked closely with the Smooth Radio North West programming team producing online content for both the website and social media channels, as well as providing production support when required.
  • I worked with teams across the group to produce video and audio content for both the Programming and Commercial teams. I continued to manage the XS Manchester website using Gusto, updating it with content including news, features, interviews and video – the website received record figures whilst under my care.

January 2014 to May 2014 | Real & Smooth Ltd

  • I was offered the position of Programme Assistant at RSL at the beginning 2013. I worked across 3 radio brands, providing admin/production support, using audio editing software, using play out systems and assisting managers within the programming department.
  • I received training on Myriad, Genesys and Adobe Audition. I also assisted in the production of shows on Real XS, including a 13-hour live outdoor broadcast.
  • My final position at RSL was Agency Planner, this role gave me great insight into the commercial side of radio and I was able to gain experience of planning both on-air and digital campaigns and ensuring that they are successful once the campaign is underway.

January 2012 to August 2012 | Person in Practice ATA

  • I completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media; my placement for this apprenticeship was at GMG Radio/Real and Smooth Ltd.
